- "Using FAXCTRL with QMODEM" ~02
-
-
-
- Qmodem, Copyright 1984,89 by The Forbin Project, Inc., is a popular
- shareware terminal program. With the introduction of version 4.1b Qmodem now
- provides a direct means of aborting the host system to the DOS level and back to
- FAXCTRL using the "Z" SYSOP command.
-
-
-
-
- We do not intend to give a tutorial on how to use, setup, or operate the
- HOST mode under Qmodem. We believe that the author(s) did that very well in the
- instructions provided with Qmodem. Therefore, we will only demonstrate how to
- interface FAXCTRL with Qmodem's HOST mode.

- The Steps ~02
- (1)·Edit the file FAXHOST.BAT so that the line:
- : QMODEM /HOST
- is active. That is remove the leading ": "
- QMODEM /HOST
-
- (2)·Edit your file "QMHOST.PWD" so that your entry has sysop status. A line
- here looks similar to this:
- your name your_password 1 ; You The Sysop
- ^- this number HAS to be "1" for sysop status
- (refer to your qmodem documentation for other information.)
-
- (3)·Use QMODEM's setup facility to create a password for System Shutdown
- (Alt-N H S), DOS Shell, (Alt-N H O), and set the number of rings to answer on to
- one (Alt-N H # 1).
-
- (4)·Follow the FAXCTRL documentation for logging in to your host system.
-
- (5)·When you're ready to logoff, USE the "Z" command! You'll have to furnish
- the Shutdown Password you entered in Step (3). ~0A

- It could be better!

- Both Procomm Plus and Telix offer Script Commands to invoke their HOST modes
- from a script file. At this point QMODEM still fails to offer this simple yet
- powerful way of entering its HOST mode.
-
- With both Telix and Procomm we have provided script files which will return
- to FAXCTRL automatically after as many seconds as you wish if FAXCTRL is tripped
- accidentally. This is because the host mode can be started from a script file.
- Once the creators of QMODEM provide this feature, we will provide a similar
- script file for QMODEM.
-
- If you'd like to see such a feature in QMODEM, send them the suggestion that
- you'd like to see a script command to invoke QMODEM's host mode. "HOST" would be
- very logical!

- Thanks to Mike Quigley, for the information on QMODEM's upgrade to 4.1b and
- the proper functioning of the "Z" command. For his effort he will received a
- free licensed version of FAXCTRL.
